BraBraBra

BraBraBra are a Berlin based band. Susanna, Saiko and Federica are three good friends who started to play together in Federica’s living room just for fun. Their lives were weird enough that they could write songs about it, with irony, cynicism and tenderness together. Today they all answer my questions (see if you can figure out which ‘B’ is which).

What are your favourite qualities in a song?
B1: To live the feeling of playing together and having fun makes it really different.
B3: A very clever arrangement most of the time wins on everything.
B2: Takes you somewhere else.
Where do you look for inspiration?
B3: At everything happening around us
Where are you happiest?
B1: Cuddling furry animals ( I know it sounds stupid but it’s true… )
B2: Where there’s music that makes me dance
B3: Where my friends are!
As a performer, what makes a show special or memorable?
B3: The response of the audience, especially when you play where no one knows you.
B1: Kind people at the venues.
B2: Having fun with yourself, your bandmates and possibly the audience.
As an audience member, what makes a show special or memorable?
B1: Musical vibes which have an effect on your cells.
B3: Artists who can have a special connection with the audience, that say or do something that resonate in you.
B2: Seeing the musicians enjoy playing their own music and being present to it.
What is your idea of success?
B3: Not have to change how we are, tame our music, or become “commercially acceptable” to reach a larger audience.
B1: Staying independent and having fun.
B2: Agree. Also a well-baked pie!
What is something you would like to learn more about?
B1: Dancing while drumming complicated rhythms.
B3: I’d like to learn how to record instruments like in the albums I like.
B2: Drumming skills!
What was your biggest musical failure?
B3: With Xantene we had a song called “Failure” which actually people like!
B2: Taking a break from playing in bands for a few years (bad idea)
B1: For us the difference between failure and success is not very clear anyway.
What was your biggest musical success?
B3: Having a review from Everett True. Playing Fusion.
B1: When a girl came to me to say ” you are my rockstar ” after a show.
B2: Our song Tropical Sensation! Sensational…
Who do you look up to?
B1: Samuli Kosminen
B3: To Kim Deal, a.k.a. GOD
B2: The Roches, Moondog, Verity Susman from Electrelane and many others
What was the first song you have ever written like?
B3: We wrote a song called “Sorel” first. The lyrics are inspired by Stendhal’s “The red and the black” and they are very melodramatic!
Who deserves a plug or shoutout?
B3: I really love Tehrapiegruppe.
B2: In Berlin: Skiing, Nunofyrbeeswax, No Diving, SchnickSchnack, Hair&Beauty. I could add more!
B1: Tatsumi Ryusui, who connected the three of us
